My first gondola ride, my first bite of pizza, and the taste of delicious seafood!
To celebrate turning 60, my husband and I planned a big family trip, a cruise through Greece with our children and their plus-ones, but starting in Venice (and ending in Croatia) made it even more special for me. Venice has been on my bucket list forever, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!
There’s something surreal about gliding through those winding canals in a gondola. Yes, it’s touristy… and it’s totally worth it! It was absolutely beautiful, peaceful, and everything I hoped it would be. A perfect way to start our journey.
But let’s talk about the food. Because… Oh my!
For lunch, we stumbled upon Gino’s, which made me laugh because ironically,
that’s the same name as the pizza place, we go to back home.
I hadn’t had real pizza in over a year (Domino’s doesn’t count) since starting my weight loss journey, so I was more than ready. We ordered a prosciutto and mushroom pie.
The look on my face says it all: Heaven! I enjoyed every single bite without a second of regret. It was worth the wait!
Later that evening, for dinner, I had a simple and fresh seafood platter at Trattoria Da Gianni: filet, prawns, and tender grilled octopus. I mean, its Venice, seafood is a must!
And yes, there was gelato. I had Stracciatella, classic and creamy with just the right touch of chocolate. The perfect sweet treat while wandering quiet cobbled alleys, crossing bridge after bridge, and taking in all the beautiful canals.
A dream start to a dream trip!
